Continuation of a Statewide Communications Drill example

STATEWIDE COMMUNICATIONS DRILL

Instructions: Listed below are the different types of communication available. Underneath each type of communication to be tested are categories and a checklist. Please locate your category on the checklist and test that type of communication with levels below and above you (i.e. an OA would test with a local government and their REOC). Your test communications can take place anytime between 8:00am and 5:00pm on December x. If the test is a success check the Yes box. If the system is in place and you are unable to successfully complete the test, check the Fail box. If the type of communication is not available to you please check N/A.

COMMERCIAL TELEPHONE AND DATA SYSTEMS
  • Standard Telephone (Existing system used daily, operational capability is assumed.)
  • Cellular Telephones (Existing system used daily, operational capability is assumed.)
  • Automatic Ring Downs (Existing system ringing to the Warning Center, operational capability is assumed.)

California Warning Alert System (CALWAS)/National Warning Alert System (NAWAS)


These are two separate and secure communications systems consisting of hard wired direct telephone lines. The CALWAS system connects 56 of 58 counties in California. The NAWAS system connects all 50 States, FEMA Regional Offices and Federal Government Agencies to a National Warning Center in Arlington, West Virginia. Test calls are made daily on each system.

Green Phone/Operational Dial Telephone System (ODT) is a State owned system which uses the state microwave system and/or wire lines leased from the telephone company. The Warning Center can be reached at #####.

    ACS Bulletins

    The Bulletins are addressed to the Emergency Management Agency (with sub-addresses to others) with the intent that the Radio Officer, ACS Coordinator or other unit participant will deliver them to the agency coordinator, and discuss their topics.
