Continued quotation from an article in SYNCHRONICITY NEWS 6.0 - December 1999 newsletter by Paul O'Brien:
"So, what is the secret to manifesting our desires? It's the last thing one would expect, another paradox. The secret is Acceptance.
"As counter-intuitive as it may seem, Acceptance is the most powerful catalyst for change. For example, when you unconditionally accept someone just the way they are, that acceptance gives them the space to change according to their true nature and their natural desires (and it makes them want to be around you!). Whether you are trying to direct it or not, change they will. But when we try to force change upon someone, to get them to change according to our attachment to the way we want them to be, they change with a generous amount of twisting, and resistance to our controlling efforts. We might consider this kind of growth beautiful in a bonsai tree, but it is behind most of the big problems in relationships.

"Taking a Taoist approach on this one,I try to regard myself as a "fledgling warrior of acceptance," because acceptance can be so challenging. As media relentlessly reflect our collective shadow, we are exposed to all kinds of negative information -- usually labelled 'news' -- that can be difficult to accept or downright scary. (Some of it -- Y2K paranoia, for example -- may even emanate from our own community and be spread via "the peoples' media" of the Internet.) In any case, increasing levels of anxiety are the result of our struggle with the fear-mongering propaganda bombarding us on all sides.

"To take refuge in the knowledge (i.e. "Faith") that there is a Plan, according to which everything is perfectly unfolding, is not easy. First of all, it demands that we let go of our attachment to knowing the Plan, to being able to figure out WHY things happen the way they happen, to making things happen or even demanding explanations. How often have you seen someone insist on coming up with an explanation about why something happened, what they did wrong, etc. -- because what happened was not what they had in mind. But designing the Plan (or calculating karma, for that matter) is not our job. Our job is to play the cards we are dealt -- to first of all ACCEPT the hand, and then play our cards as well as responsively as we can.

"To stay in the flow of the game is the challenge we are called upon to make in the face of Y2K, symbol of Change. As long as we make our choices in sync with Divine Providence, Destiny, Fate -- or whatever you want to call It -- you can feel secure in the knowledge that you are doing the best you can and that you will be provided for. All you have to do is stay in sync!

"Faith, patience, insight and acceptance -- these are the qualities that help us manage Change and leverage perfect timing in our lives. Remember, you WILL get everything your heart desires --it's just a matter of timing. Another word for this is Grace.

"May the grace of perfect timing be with you, and may this special New Year inspire you to let it guide you in a graceful way." (end of quotes.)
