"Those infected with the "Good Ol' Boys" virus are unable to distinguish between personal and professional issues. Some groups seem to have the idea that they control the supply of Amateurs in the community and to whom, what and where they
will be allowed to serve. That may have worked once-upon-a-time in a fairy-land world, but today the experienced professional agency coordinator knows that there is always mutual aid via government units in another jurisdiction. Or they can go to another group and/or recruit individual participants.
"In many areas the number of Amateurs available for any type of emergency response is limited. If both Red Cross and the city or county want their own organization, then agreements should be made between the competing agencies.
"The first thing to recognize is to NOT compete, but to share. Organizational personnel should register with both agencies. Each agency will have its own requirements. ARES personnel will have to understand this and ARES individuals will have to choose one or the other as their primary response duty.
