| This is my first QSL Card design based on a Colorado photo. I snapped this photo at the Vail Pass Rest Area, at the summit of Vail Pass on I-70. The summit of Vail Pass is 10,662 feet above sea level (ASL). The rest area is just east of the summit, and shows an elevation of 10,544 feet ASL, according to my GPS. The segment of I-70 over Vail Pass was completed in 1978, The challenge in constructing the pass was that the designers wanted the highway to blend in with the natural environment as much as possible. One of the ways that they accomplished this was by tinting the concrete a little red, to match the surrounding landscape. |
