QSL Card Number 10

The photo on this card was taken on September 30, 2025, just south of St. George, Utah. It had rained overnight, and the sun was coming up (behind me), catching the clouds and mountain tops with sunlight.

The other cards shown in this listing are all set up for Portable Operation. These card designs were put together for operating from home, or for contacts made with my non-portable call (no /p suffix).

This card has nothing to do with an actual operating location that I've used. It is a picture that I snapped while going through the Virgin River Gorge, in Northwestern Arizona.

The National Park Service has this to say about the Old Spanish National Historic Trail:

"Follow the routes of mule pack trains across the Southwest on the Old Spanish National Historic Trail between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Los Angeles, California. New Mexican traders moved locally produced merchandise across what are now six states to exchange for mules and horses."

Supposedly this location is along part of one of the trails. And there are some neat mule silhouettes that are lit at night. Sounds like a good card design to me.

I was making a delivery at a Las Vegas area airport, with double trailers (11,500 gallons of jet fuel), and snapped this quick picture to send to my wife.  I liked it enough to create a card with it.

This card is a little different, because it doesn't show off scenery or a neat location. It's just a glamour shot of my truck and some shiny trailers.

I found this location almost by accident. It's located along a 6% grade on Interstate 15, between San Bernardino, California and Victorville, California. As I was chugging by at 35 miles per hour, I noted that the pull-off was just big enough to get the truck off the road, and safely parked.

I kept it in the back of my mind as a location to stop if I ran out of drive/work hours in traffic, since there are not many parking areas for trucks in Southern California. We're not supposed to park on the side of the highway, either. But, when you run out of hours, Federal law states that we must stop in a safe location. This pretty much fits the bill, since it's small and allows me to get far enough from the highway to be safe (there are guardrails on both sides of the pull-off area.

I launched the drone early in the morning, which is why the picture is a bit dark. The sun wasn't up, but I wanted to catch the train climbing the grade in the background.  I may rework this card in the future with another photo of that area, showing the gradient a little better.

This card didn't turn out the way I envisioned. The highway cuts through a really rough mountain area here, and the scenery is stunning. However, in order to get the mountains into the picture, the drone had to be so far away that the truck was barely visible as a dot on the road. This image is looking west, toward Bullhead City, AZ and Laughlin, NV at the bottom of the hill.

The idea behind the photo on this card came to me while running to Albuquerque to pick up a load of jet fuel. There is an old gas station along the side of Interstate 40, and I thought it would be neat to pull in like I was trying to get fuel for the truck.

Without breaking out the drone, this is the best of the pictures I snapped.

This card is the first card that includes my new truck, a 2026 Kenworth T680 with a full-sized sleeper. This is also the first picture that was taken from my small drone, while parked alongside Lake Havasu, in Western Arizona.

Note: This scenic pull-out is inside the boundary of the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge (POTA US-0172)! One of these days, I'll end up shutting down in this location for a reset, and activate the park, probably on FT-8.

The photo on this card occurred 100% by chance. Another driver and I were running back and forth between Phoenix, Arizona and Albuquerque, New Mexico. We had both pulled into a rest area for the night, and when I noticed we were the only trucks in the parking area, I snapped this picture (at about 11pm).

My old truck is on the right, and the other driver's newer, full-size sleeper, truck is on the left.
